Employees have access to an on-site wellness nurse to help monitor their health. Each week, Registered Nurse Melanie Pigeon offers an open-door clinic to help City employees gain a better understanding of their medical status.
The Wellness Clinic offers a broad scope of medical services. The clinic offerings include blood draws for cholesterol and glucose screenings, overall wellness, blood pressure readings, and general medical advice. The nurse also addresses weight concerns and nutrition programs. Melanie is able to share the data she collects with each client’s personal physician. This added bonus provides perspective to the body of information that is reviewed by that client’s doctor.
The clinics alternate each Tuesday between the Civic Center and the Corporation Yard. Melanie’s doors are open to all employees between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on a walk-in basis. Her scheduling is announced in advance by Human Resources via email.
Melanie is also a great resource for medical information. Many times she has answered questions for a staffer who was asking questions about a family member in the hospital. Because she has a Critical Care background, she is often able to explain and offer context to information provided by other medical professionals.
In the past, the wellness nurse has been able to identify individuals who were in need of emergent care and referred them to the emergency room for immediate medical attention. Melanie is an RN with the Sutter Medical Foundation.
