Mandatory cyber training dates extended

A large number of City employees have not yet completed the newly mandated Cyber Security Awareness training. To help facilitate everyone’s schedules, the completion deadline has been moved back to 5 p.m., Monday, February 25. Every employee is required to have completed this training by that deadline. If you have any questions, please contact the Information Technology (IT) Department at [email protected] or call them at phone extension x4357.

Please schedule time out of your day to complete this training. The IT team is providing this information to address the increasing number of cyber attacks against government facilities.

Each employee will receive an email with a link to training that will further educate employees on Cyber Security. This 45-minute online training is required for all City employees. It covers the following topics:

  • an employee’s role in protecting our organization’s data and resources
  • common threats that all of us face online
  • how to identify malicious emails
  • how to protect against future threats

Employees will receive reminder emails leading up to the February 25 deadline, or until they complete the training.

This is the authorized email that you will receive:

Over the past two years, the IT Department has conducted a series of security tests involving every employee. The tasks were designed to evaluate our performance in identifying and reacting to cyber threats. We are pleased to announce that as a group, our performance is much better than the national averageBetter yet, we recently performed better than we did two years ago.

This is an on-going effort to protect the City’s resources, our data, and our staff. We thank you for your continued due diligence and support in these matters.

Thank you to all who have completed the training.
