Global Protect Authentication Changing to PingID

Updated July 02, 2020

As mentioned in a previous newsletter, Global Protect will be moving from the current MFA (Multi-factor Authentication) method, phone call and hit pound (#), to utilizing PingID for MFA.

The initial change of Global Protect MFA to PingID will occur on Tuesday, July 14th, and will impact Global Protect users who are City employees; vendors/contractors who use Global Protect will be impacted on Tuesday, July 21st. PingID was rolled out for Office 365 and Citrix earlier this year with great success and we are confident that Global Protect will be just as successful.

How will this impact you as a Global Protect user? This is only a change to the authentication method, nothing else will change in regards to Global Protect. You will still login and access Global Protect as you did before, just now instead of getting a call for authentication you will use the authentication method you set for PingID (mobile app or phone call).

You can see the simple step-by-step method for this new process here. If you have not registered with PingID, you can register any time before the change is made to minimize impact by using PingID registration instructions.

This process will also be changing for contractors with Global Protect access. Their registration and steps will mirror those of employees with a few minor changes, They will use their work email for registration.
