See who won the 2019 Summer Photo Contest
The cool breezes of October have arrived, and with them, we have the name of the winner of the 2019 Summer Photo Contest! Our coworkers created a fantastic set of images as they traveled far and wide during the past few months. This is the third year that employees have shared their pictures in this contest. We received almost 40 entries this year, a record for the competition. Come take a look!

We’ll count our way down the top five to discover the image that made the greatest impression on our judges. Later, we'll add a couple of images that we felt were unique, well-crafted, or shared an interesting story...

Kaitlin Grebe
Fifth Place - "I went on a 5-day backpacking trip in the John Muir Wilderness. This photo was taken with my phone as I was hiking out with my aunt and sister, a few miles from the border of the John Muir Wilderness and Kings Canyon National Park. The tree (an extremely tall Ponderosa Pine) was dead. All of its bark had fallen off and was lying around the base of the tree. It did still smell like butterscotch, though." - Kaitlin Grebe (PR&L)

Jordan Mahallati
Fourth Place - "A few weeks ago my girlfriend and I went to her brother’s wedding near Yosemite. One of the days, we took a trip out to Bodie, California - an authentic Wild West Ghost Town! All of the buildings were in various stages of decay. The general store was still full of supplies, and there was even an original Shell gas station. I recommend everyone take a visit to Bodie at least once.- Jordan Mahallati (PR&L)

Brian Diemer
Third Place - This picture was taken just before sunrise on September 6. We are standing in the middle of the balloons in Rancho San Rafael Park. This is the site of the Great Reno Balloon Races. We have been taking our family here for over fifteen years as a great way to close out our summer. We enjoy the cool, early morning punctuated by the bright colored balloons, heat from the burners, and friendly people as we walk amongst the balloons filling up and departing. - Brian Diemer (RFD)

 Cynthia Soszka
Second Place - Here's a photo that I took this summer while in Denver Colorado. I went there with my husband for a seminar. When the seminar was over, we took a drive out to Rocky Mountain National Park. On our way into the park we passed by Lake Estes. The serenity of a still lake always draws me in, so I had to stop and take some photos. I just can’t resist a beautiful lake photo! - Cynthia Soszka (Development Services)

And finally, the judges selected the following image as the winner of the "collectors edition" HUB t-shirt, and all the bragging rights that go with the award!

Sean Morales
First Place - As part of our honeymoon this summer, my wife and I spent a week on the Italian island Sardinia. In this picture she is jumping off a cliff into the Mediterranean Sea at Mariolu Beach. - Sean Morales (Development Services)

Congratulations to both Sean and his wife! The judges loved how you captured that moment. Great shot!

We received a number of wonderful entries. We've included three more of those images that we want to share with everyone.

Vicki Kenton
The first image comes to us from Vicki Kenton (PW).
She describes her visit to the Paris, to see the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral. "Just 2 days before fire tragically engulfed the roof of the famous French medieval cathedral on April 15 of this year, my family and I climbed the never-ending stairs to the bell towers.  We were nearby at the Musee D’Orsay on the 15th, and could see the odd yellow-colored smoke (it smelled of sulphur) as we popped up between subway stops, not far from the cathedral."

Lisa Gist
The second picture is a very relaxing image that comes to us from Lisa Gist (Electric).
"The Gist Family traveled to Australia to visit the Australia Zoo and the Great Barrier Reef. Great Barrier Reef picture is my son, John Gist, scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef." Looks like fun!

Jeannie Gandler
Our last image here is provided to us by Jeannie Gandler (PW).
"This photo was taken from a vista point across from Haystack Falls on the Going-to-the-Sun highway in Glacier National Park, Montana. Our 4,100-mile road trip took us up the Sacramento Valley past magnificent Mt. Shasta and into Bend, Oregon. We traveled through Central Oregon, snapping photos along the way of wide open fields full of rustic barns and wildflowers."

Thank you everyone for participating and we look forward to seeing the pictures from your adventures next year!
