City designs smoke plan to protect employees

Northern California is vulnerable to wildfires. By extension, that risk threatens the quality of the breathable air here in Roseville. In 2018, we saw how our air quality was dramatically affected during the Camp Fire, which destroyed the City of Paradise, CA.

In order to protect our employees, the City has developed an Outdoor Smoke Protection Plan. This is in response to new State regulations.

The plan explains that at differing times of high smoke density, for the sake of their safety, employees:

  • may be either encouraged or mandated to wear protective dust masks (particulate respirators)
  • may be asked to stop and/or move their work function to a safer location (for better air quality)

Management will monitor the quality of air and inform all affected employees of how to proceed should this plan be activated. We ask that you review the plan now to help answer your questions in advance of such an event.

As part of this plan:

  • All employees will be assigned the Outdoor Smoke Protection Plan in RoseU and given 60 days to complete the training (reading and acknowledgment of the document/plan).
  • If you have employees without access to RoseU or regular access to computers, please utilize the Tailgate Training located on Risk Management page along with the sign-in sheet for training records. Please scan the sign-in sheet and send to Jennifer Lane in Risk Management after completing the training. Please complete the tailgate training no later than Friday, November 8, 2019.
  • Employees will be able to access the training documents via the following avenues:

It is very important that everyone address this concern. If you have any questions, please speak to your supervisor.
