Take time to avoid stress at work
Stress from our jobs can become overwhelming if we don’t properly balance the pressures of daily life. In 2018, 64 percent of American adults cited work as a top source of stress, according to the American Psychological Association's (APA) annual Stress in America Survey.

The City understands the importance of addressing mental health in the workplace. We want our employees to have the ability to proactively manage mental stressors and fatigue.

We encourage our staffers to take a bit of time out of their work-day to take a short walk or play a game of ping pong. Get up from your computer or workstation to do a few stretches. If you’re in the field, step away from your assignment and grab a drink of water. Short efforts such as these do wonders to mitigate stress and help break up the day. Ping pong tables are located at several City buildings for this very reason.

The City's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers resources for employees to address stress from both work and home. We want our employees to be proactive and utilize the resources around them to prevent, mitigate, and fight against stress.

If stress is a limiting factor in your day, feel free to speak with your supervisor, Human Resources (HR), or the wellness nurse who visits the Civic Center and Corp Yard on Tuesdays. We all get stressed. The City has resources available for you at your request.

Here are two two-stress related resources available for you to explore:
